Ghajini is a very powerful film despite all its flaws. It is a powerpacked blend of a solid concept and script along with strong film-making and of course the knockout performance of Aamir Khan - the very USP of the film. So all you people out there if you have even an iota of doubt whether Aamir Khan is No. 1 in India… Watch Ghajini. He is unmatched in the film. He leads the league of extraordinary actors in India. I would even go on to say that he is the Robert Di Niro of India.

There are several flaws in the script and the film but you would be too busy in the riveting story of the film, gripped by the suspense and thrill to notice them.”This is a breathless, exciting story, heart-breaking and exhilarating at the same time,” confirms critic Taran Adarsh. The film has resemblance in concept with Christopher Nolan’s Momento only in terms of the short-term memory loss of the protagonist. But the refreshingly different story-telling of master mind director A.R Murugadoss is what makes all the difference. He rejects the linear mode of story-telling and adopts the flash-backs technique to keep the viewer on the edge of his seat and his eyes hooked on to the screen.

Cinematography and screenplay are just brilliant throughout the film. All the action scenes have been brilliantly written and executed and so are the songs. I loved the way Behka was picturized and Guzarish is brilliant too.

Now coming to the best part of the film - Aamir Khan’s performance. There aren’t many adjectives in my vocabulary to describe how brilliant Aamir Khan is through out the movie. Can’t believe he is our same old chocolate boy of Qayamat se Qayamat tak. He is one actor who emotes with his eyes and body language more than his dialogues. The pain on his face when he cant remember things during acute short-term memory loss, the anger on his face and the blood in his eyes as he takes on the baddies in the film. Many critics believe this is Aamir’s career-best performance as he plays both vulnerable and hard with elan.

Debutante Asin, is fresh. She looks beautiful on screen and does her bit with sincerity of a debutante although she is a big star down under in South India. She has a bright future in Bollywood. Jiah needs to add more effort on her dialogue delivery. She needs a better stylist too. Pradeep Rawat is brutally brilliant in his villanous role although it is a bit old fashioned in today’s time.

Just dont miss this film guys…Its a worth watch. I watched it for Aamir Khan more than anything else. It worked for me. A must-watch for all the Aamir Khan fans out there.

Fashion Movie Review

Director: Madhur Bhandarkar

Cast: Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut, Mughda Godse, Arbaaz Khan, Kitu Gidwani, Arjan Bajwa

For all that hype around Madhur Bhandarkar exposing the Fashion Industry and its crude realities in this film, sorry to say - Fashion is not as hard-hitting as Chandni Bar or Page 3.The film is built around clichés and stereotypes, which were obviously not expected, not from Madhur at least.

The story revolves around Meghna Mathur (Priyanka Chopra), a middle-class girl from small-town Chandigarh who dreams of becoming a model after winning a local beauty contest. The story is about how she reaches the top and falls from there only bounce back and regain her stardom. Parallel to her is Shonali Gujral (Kangana Ranaut) who has a similar story, the only difference being, she is hit harder by her failure that leads to a complete mental and emotional breakdown.

The film could’ve been more realistic if there were slight changes in the storyline. Our heroine seems to meet too many good Samaritans in the industry who help her to get up there. She is shown to be a very nice girl who makes no compromises on a personal level (except for doing a lingerie advertisement) in her struggling days. She doesn’t manipulate, snatch, and carve her way up, things just happen for her- that feels a little ‘too-good-to-be-true’- especially in the big bad world of fashion where everyone looks towards their own benefit- as Madhur wants to show.

She meets Arjan Bajwa a fellow struggler who she falls in love with but loses him out because their egos clash. She meets Mugdha Godse, a nice hearted fellow struggling model, who doesn’t make it quite big because she is just not the leading lady of the film. She befriends business tycoon Arbaaz Khan who finally ‘makes’ her career only to end up in bed with her. Throughout the film, Madhur gives us reasons to sympathize with Meghna Mathur, he doesn’t leave it to us to decide whether she is worth sympathizing or not.

The movie is fairly predictable. Kangana Ranaut does an extension of her Wo Lamhe act. But she looks extremely professional when she walks the ramp. Looks awesome too. We are expected to sympathize with her too - abusive boyfriend, emotional instability etc etc. Her famous wardrobe malfunction scene is shown as an ‘accident’ that finally leads to her breakdown - positive disposition again - ruins the realism factor.

Gay stereotypes were a bit too many - Harsh Chhaya the best of them. But Sameer Soni deserves a pat for his performance. He breaks the stereotype of the effeminate gay fashion designer and comes across as a very normal, ordinary fashion designer who happens to be a gay. Wish his gay kissing scene was included in the film, would’ve added depth to his portrayal.

So basically Madhur wanted to tell us, through this movie, that Fashion world is all about - bad brutal competition, selfishness, wardrobe malfunction, design theft, drugs, promiscuity, homosexuality, incessant smoking and drinking. Good effort. But this reality could’ve been more real to be as hard-hitting as he’d wanted it to be.

This so-called crackling Diwali attraction, which was supposed to blow up audiences laughing but it turned out to be as disappointing as a soggy pathaka! Sigh!!!

Boring, crude, stupid and slapstick- Golmaal Returns. Gives you stupid and lame gags like “Lara Dutta’s name would become Lara Lara if she married Brian Lara.” Oh God Gimme A Break! The entire film has this kind of dumb humor - Three guys lying on top of each other on a bed implying they are caught in a gay act, guy flying in the air and falling over his crotch on a pointed rock, or someone poking two pairs of scissors in someone’s butt, electrocuting someone so that he flies in the air with a jerk, you name it and they have the most stupid gags ever. I laughed only once in the entire film. That tells you how dumb it was.

Golmaal Returns is plainly - all hype no show! Poor script and dialogues could not do justice to performers like Ajay Devgan, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade and Vrijesh Hirji who are known for their awesome comic performance and timing.

Ajay Devgan, should seriously hire a good fashion designer, he wears pathetic clothes in the film. He was also bound by a stupid characterization and script so he tried to do his best in whatever little he got. Tusshar Kapoor, is the only one who seems to have worked hard, his miming was amazing. Shreyas had the same problem like Ajay, nevertheless he has also done a good job. Arshad Warsi had a limited role but his swearing is funny. I laughed only at the point when everyone beats up Tusshar shouting Balaji.

Kareena Kapoor was only a star attraction. She was impressive in her own bit. Celina and Amrita Arora were only pretty props. Bad script can really break a comedy - Golmaal Returns is one such example.

Go for this movie only if you have a taste for the stupid slapstick comedy. Else I suggest you sit back at home and watch Tom & Jerry instead.

KARZZZZ, Typical Bollywood Masala Film

Satish Kaushik’s Karzzzz belongs to the category of typical Bollywood masala films. Remake of Subhash Ghai's KARZ, the movie only caters to the taste of public who likes the masala entertainers. It has nothing to offer to the intellectual audience.

It is also a fact that this movie failed to create the magic of old Karz, but it doesn’t disappoint movie goers completely. Moreover writer Shiraz Ahmed has added a new twist to the original story of Karz.

Cast of the film is Himesh Reshammiya, Urmila Matondkar, Danny Denzongpa, Gulshan Grover, Rohini Hattangadi.

Himesh has confidently played the role of Monty. Urmila playing the role of Kaamini gave some great scenes in the film. Music by Himesh is already popular among the masses. Shweta Kumar’ performance was average. Dino Morea leaves a mark. Danny Denzongpa has done great job with his role. Gulshan Grover couldn’t create his badman magic.

Karzzzz has received mixed reviews from the critics. Some critics have discarded it as worthless movie with poor performance by most actors. It is a fact that this movie can’t be compared with old Karz. But it can’t be denied that this movie has been made with proper amount of all the ingredients of bollywood masala film. Audience having taste of such films will enjoy this film while people watching this movie with a motive to find concrete themes or looking for undying performances will be badly disappointed.

Kidnap Movie Review

Kidnap had enough reasons to draw people to the theatres –
1. It is Imran Khan’s second movie after his very successful debut. He looked very sexy in the role of a tough baddie. (I’m talking about the promos)
2. It’s a Sanjay Gadhvi movie – the successful director of Dhoom series.
3. Sanjay Dutt
4 Minissha Lamba in her new bikinilicious avatar
Plus it was supposed to be the Eid attraction.


The promos gave the impression that Kidnap is going to be a typical Sanjay Gadhvi action-suspense Masala flick. Big names, good locales, interesting story and plot and a couple of good songs… all the perfect ingredients for a successful film. But does this concoction impress? Lets see…

As soon as Minissha Lamba is done with her introductory item number and skin show, she gets kidnapped… Whoa! That was pretty fast. No time wasted there. And then begins the cat and the mouse came between Sanjay Dutt (who plays Minissha’s father) and Kabir (Imran Khan). We are not given any information on Kabir and his motive behind the kidnapping of Sonia (that exactly is the suspense) and it leaves the audience more curious as to why the kidnapper doesn’t want a huge ransom from such a rich man.

The first half manages to keep you hooked, thanks to a well-etched plot and Minissha Lamba’s ample cleavage show… But when the climax is unfolded with the actual reason why Kabir kidnaps Sonia and how the movie ends is extremely disappointing… and that makes all the difference to the film.

Performances are just about average. Sanjay Dutt, looks extremely tired in the movie, he needs to work a little bit on his body. There is nothing much to do for, he just glided over his role. Imran Khan, well, the lad looks great but he should work on his intonation, his dialogue delivery sounds a little monotonous. Minissha Lamba does what she was expected to do – act like a pretty prop, she carried her bikini sequence with élan. Vidya Malvade… I wonder why she was chosen for that role.

Over all, it’s a fairly nice time-pass flick. It has everything that appeals to the eye. So go for it.

Drona Movie Review

All hype no show – Wish I could give this one line review of Drona. Disappointing fare from Goldie Behl.

Like all super hero films the story is simple – Hero fights to save the world from a villain who wants to be immortal. The only difference being, that this superhero is straight out of Indian mythology with an Indian look.
The biggest pain in the movie was Kay Kay Menon’s character Riz Raizada. Poor characterization puts Menon’s effort to waste. The character seems to be inspired by Batman’s Joker. His weird and garish wardrobe and hairstyle makes him look like a gay… really a torture.

The movie reminded me of that tacky serial of our childhood Alif Laila where the virtuous desi-super hero fights all odds to beat the villain. The challenges that Drona faces to succeed in his mission are far from impressive. The sword fights and car chases are all clichéd.

Abhishek Bachchan, quite honestly speaking is unsuitable for the role of a Super hero. One cannot help but make the unjust comparison with Hrithik Roshan in Krrish. Also, he lacks the physique of an action hero; he should work that belly flab out.

Priyanka Chopra could’ve been called the saving grace if her character was a little stronger. Jaya Bachchan has a small role, in most of which is she seems she is almost crying.

However, the actual saving grace of Drona is the special effects of the movie. The only thing you could bear the movie for. Otherwise a movie with a lousy story, average performances and poor screenplay and direction could just be called a ‘waste of time and effort’.

By the end of the movie… I really felt sorry for Abhishek who had so many hopes from this movie.
