Karisma Promises to Be A Fair Judge

Karisma Kapoor ready to have Star One’s TRPs soaring… who wouldn’t tune in to watch one of the sexiest actresses of Bollywood judge the dance show.
It was quite a news when we heard Lolo has taken up Nach Baliye. People speculated that Karisma wanted to get back her popularity before she makes a Bollywood comeback. But Lolo says,

“I am back, but this is not my comeback. Everyone is doing television, so why not me? I have been a dancer all my life but this is the first time that I will be judging others on their dancing skills. People used to judge me until now but now, I will be judging them,” she says.
Quite a few of Karisma’s contemporaries like Raveena Tandon and Sonali Bendre have taken to television reality shows as judges, perhaps that gave Karisma to give a nod to the offer.

“I do not believe in herd mentality. Yes, there are numerous shows mushrooming, but if a reality show had come to me earlier, I wouldn’t have considered it. The timing had to be right,” she explains.
And how does she plan to go about judging -

I am expecting good performances and great chemistry from the couples. I hope to bring my knowledge of dance to the contestants. I will be encouraging and fair. All three [judges] of us will be honest with the participants when it comes to giving marks.

Karisma's return isn't a comeback

She has been away from the limelight for a while but Karisma Kapoor, refuses to dub her return as a judge on Nach Baliye 4 as a ‘comeback’. “I don’t want to call it my comeback. When Julia Roberts does a film after a long period, is it called a comeback? If not, then why in my case?” she asks.

But why a dance show? “I’ve always loved dancing. People loved me in dance numbers too. I had free time on my hands. So I gave it a nod. Till now people used to judge me but now I’ll be on the judge’s seat,” she laughs. Talking about the small screen, the actor did the show Karishma— A Miracle of Destiny in the past. Does she regret doing the show considering that it didn’t create waves? “Absolutely not! I grew as an actress and learnt a new medium. The show was not axed like a lot of other shows. It completed its time period. My performance was appreciated.”

Karisma, who has done almost 60 films, has no regrets even about those films that didn’t do well. “I gave my heart and soul to all. I am proud of all of my films.”

Contrary to rumours Karisma maintains that she has not signed any film. “I am looking for a script that would excite me.” Would she do only heroine- oriented films? “I don’t think so. I am game for any role that will make me feel like returning on the sets,” she says.

Last year Madhuri Dixit’s hugely publicised Aaja Nachle sank. What’s Karisma’s take on ‘comeback stars’ failing at the ticket counters? “If a film fails, it does not necessarily mean that the actor has failed. One person can’t be held responsible for a film’s debacle,” she asserts.

About enjoying the pause after marriage she says, “I have worked long enough. It was a well-deserved break. I’m happy to have dedicated my time to my daughter (Samaira).”When asked about how motherhood has changed her as a person, she says, “It’s the most beautiful feeling. I’ve become more responsible in my thought and actions,” she beams.

How does Samaira react when she spots her on screen? “At first, it was a little weird for her because she’s used to seeing her masi Kareena (Kapoor) on screen. Gradually, she has realised that her mother also is an actress,” she quips.

Motherhood changed me: Karisma Kapoor

Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, who is back with her industrialist husband Sunjay Kapur and will soon be seen as a judge on the fourth season of Naach Baliye, says that being a mother has been the best experience of her life.

"Motherhood changed me a lot as it has made me more responsible and mature as a human being. Being a mother is the best experience of my life," said Karisma, who is on a long sabbatical after marriage in 2003.

Karisma was at the top of the number game in Bollywood for half a decade churning out hits like Raja Hindustani, Dil To Pagal Hai, Judwaa, Biwi No 1 and critically acclaimed films - Zubeidaa and Fiza.Karisma says she misses acting which has been her passion and the gap was just a break for her.

"I started my career at a very early age and have done all types of films. I have been lucky enough to have experimented with all kinds of roles. Being away from acting has just been a break for me," said Karisma who started her career at the age of 17 with Prem Qaidi. She won four Filmfare awards for Raja Hindustani, Dil To Pagal Hai, Fiza and Zubeidaa.

Commenting upon her role as a judge on Naach Baliye 4, she said: "I have consented to be judge of the show as it will not be too hectic for me. I have to shoot once or twice a week and that will leave ample amount of time to devote to my home and daughter (Samaira)."

Karisma thinks the television scene has changed drastically and gap between the small and big screen has been reduced as more and more Bollywood actors are doing TV shows.

"Most of my colleagues whom I worked with, have been on television for various shows, be it Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar or others. At the same time, many television actors have also made a mark for themselves on the big screen," the actress said.

Karisma is open to similar kind of offers and would also not mind anchoring shows if it suits her taste.

As far as acting in films is concerned, Karisma said: "Just wait and watch." The actress was supposed to make a comeback with Lamha.

Karishma - Brand Ambassador for Priyagold

Merely before couple of weeks, we had alluring missy Deepika Padukone signing for BSNL as brand ambassador. Fine! We have one more hot celebrity getting roped in for brand ambassadorship, but not for BSNL.

Karishma Kapoor has been opted as new brand ambassador for 'Surya Food & Agro Ltd'; a U.P. based Food Company at Noida, known for Priyagold biscuits. Sooner, we will espy the pulchritudinous actress recommending three products from the Priyagold stable – Butter bite, Butter bite Badam Pesta and Marie lite.

Perhaps, this is the first time Priyagold has preferred for celebrity endorsement. And earlier, it was TV personality Priya Tendulkar who plumped for these products a decade ago. Karishma has spelled that it's because of her personal preference for Priyagold products, she signed for brand ambassadorship.
